Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage your optic nerve, usually due to increased pressure in the eye. The optic nerve sends visual messages from your eyes to your brain, helping you interpret the world around you. If left untreated, glaucoma may lead to vision loss or even blindness.  

Diagnosing glaucoma 

Regular eye exams are critical for catching glaucoma because this condition often has no noticeable symptoms in the early stages. During your comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Jones will evaluate your eye health, check your eye pressure, and examine your optic nerve for any signs of damage. She’ll also test your peripheral vision (the part of your sight that’s first affected by glaucoma) to see if there are any signs of vision loss. One of the innovative tools we use for this assessment is the VR Heru headset. This advanced technology provides a more engaging and accurate way to test your peripheral vision. 

Glaucoma treatment in Frisco    

When treating glaucoma, we typically start with medicated eye drops. These eye drops lower eye pressure by decreasing or improving drainage of eye fluid. If eye drops aren’t enough, Dr. Jones may prescribe oral medications or suggest laser therapy as a treatment option. For more advanced cases, she may recommend surgery to better manage the condition.
